The studio was listed here as "Frantz" in the 1902 Ratinckx directory and as a branch of Ferdinand Buyle (see that name) from 1903 to 1909. Buyle requested a building permit at this address on 24.9.1901, but it was in fact his brother Gustave (see that name) who lived at this address from 31.5.1902 until 6.12.1902. Subsequently the operator here must have been Karl Klein (° Friedland [D], 21.9.1877), who was recorded as a photographer in the Antwerp population register and resided here from 3.12.1902 until 18.10.1912. This studio co-existed here with Marynen & Cie and their successor Joseph Haesaerts (see those names). The ground floor had one shop window featuring the name "Frantz" and another featuring the name Marynen, separated by a door. We do not yet have a plausible explanation as to why the trade name "Frantz" was used at this address. One possibility is that the studio was named after Gustave Buyle's infant son Franz Pepinus Vitalis (° Aalst, 3.2.1899).
