Léon Jean Baptiste André, ° 8.11.1855; + 14.7.1927. Engineer. Second prize winner in the amateur category of an aeronautical photography competition organised by the "Aero Club d'Anvers", the results of which were displayed in the Hotel Legrelle until 2.2.1910 (Le Matin, 31.1.1910). In December 1913, Gérard delivered a presentation about a study trip he had made to Sardinia at the "Association des Ingénieurs sortis de l'Ecole Polytechnique de Bruxelles", enhanced by his own autochromes. Still a member of the ABP in 1922. One of his obituaries includes the following statement: "In aviation, Léon Gérard was, along with commander de Laminne, Verschaeve and lieutenant Nélis, one of the promoters of aerial photography, which was to provide so many services to the armed forces during the war" (La Nation Belge, 15.7.1927).
