Gilles Michel Armand, ° 27.4.1845. Engineer, attached to the legation in Peking. Graduated from the University of Liège in 1870 with a degree in mining and civil engineering. He was working for the coalmines in Mariemont when he was posted to China on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on a mission of "commercial and industrial exploration" by decree of 5.6.1874. Founder member of the ABP and corresponding member while living abroad. No record of his photographic activity in China has yet come to light. Member of the "Société géologique de Belgique". Gérard returned to Brussels by 1876-1877 and was living in Paris [F] in 1879 and in Asnières [F] in 1897.
