Life dates
Brussels - Saint-Josse, 1845 - Gosselies, 1922
Activity
1869 * - 1897 / Namur, Rue de Fer, 60
Predecessor: Dupont Henri (Mr & Mme)
Jean Baptiste Hippolyte ° 12.6.1845; + 11.1.1922. Arrived from Charleroi and registered in Namur on 1.7.1869, but legal domicile remained in Brussels - Saint-Josse. Formerly an operator at the Dupont studio. It was apparently Gevaert who ran the branch studio at the same address and then took it over under his own name. His activity at this address cannot have been continuous, since he spent the second half of the 1870s in Northern France. Gevaert left Namur for Gosselies on 7.12.1897.
1873 ca Roubaix [Nord, F], Rue des Fabricants, 6
On CV at this address, "Vve Léon, H. Gevaert successor".
1874 Roubaix [Nord, F], Rue de l'Hospice, 20
Gevaert claimed that he had been the sole operator at the veuve Léon studio in Roubaix for the past 3 years, when he announced that he had completed the construction of a photographic studio at this address (Journal de Roubaix, 13.4.1874). The same advertisement mentions a branch in Lille [Nord, F]. At his wedding in Roubaix [Nord, F] on 17.7.1875, Gevaert was recorded as a photographer domiciled in Roubaix. Still recorded as a photographer domiciled in Roubaix at the birth of a child there in February 1876 and at the death of a child there in December 1877. Subsequently recorded as domiciled and resident in Tourcoing [Nord, F] in May 1880.
1903 - 1914 Gosselies, Rue de la Station, 9 or 3<05ca>
Perhaps active immediately upon arrival in Gosselies in 1897. Spelled "Gevaers", no street address, in the 1914 trade directory.
