Alexandre Joseph, ° 29.1.1840; + 4.3.1902. Brother of François Gilles (see that name). In December 1877 he took over the studio and negatives of Edouard Josz. "Gilles C." in the directories from 1878 to 1890.

"Gilles C." in the directories from 1891 to 1895. From 1896 until 1906, the Mertens directory mentions A. Gilles. "Instant, artistic, industrial, and commercial photography [...] Lessons in photography. Supplies for amateurs". The studio appears to have continued trading under Alexandre's name for several years after his death, presumably under the auspices of his son.
