Predecessor: Gilles François Successeur: Gilles - Ledoux (Maison)
° 19.10.1844; + 15.11.1889. Amand was the younger brother of François Gilles. At first a teacher and communal secretary in Moignelée. He is said to have learned photography with the Parisian portraitist Franck (see that name), who had stayed in Namur in c. 1862. Following the transfer of the studio from his brother in 1873, he continued initially to sign CVs simply "Gilles" with no first name. On 22.8.1876 he married Joséphine Ledoux (° Tamines, 23.1.1841; + Namur, 5.10.1879), following which the studio credit ran "Artistic photography of all kinds, Gilles - Ledoux". He registered a patent in 1885 for an "automatic dimmer for photographic enlargements". Amand's second marriage was to Désirée Marie Massart (° Beuzet, 6.8.1849; + Namur, 14.6.1921) on 11.4.1883. She ensured the continuity of the studio after his death and maintained the trade name "Maison Gilles - Ledoux".
