Jean Léon, ° 18.9.1847. Entered the Military Academy in 1867. Lieutenant in 1874. Attached to the Military Academy. Captain in 1879. Professor of chemistry at the "Ecole de Guerre" [War College] on 5.7.1880. Captain-commander in 1883. Resigned his commission in 1889. Author of "La photographie appliquée aux arts militaires et aux arts civils. Leçons théoriques et pratiques", Namur, A. Wesmael-Charlier, 1890 (2nd ed., 1901). He also wrote a standard work on explosives, published under the same imprint, which ran to three editions, the final one in 1907. Remained professor of applied chemistry at the "Ecole militaire" until at least 1911. Honorary member of the "Cercle Photographique d’Ixelles".
