Marie Séraphine Cornand, ° 6.2.1843; + 19.9.1889. Married Guillaume Joseph Gonthier, a school teacher, in Liège on 14.9.1878, when she was recorded as of no profession. Elder sister of Napoléon and Césarine Cornand (see those names). Following Louis Corbassière's bankruptcy, Mme Gonthier - Cornand acquired the studio, probably in running order and with "40 000 plates made since 20.9.1875" (La Meuse, 6.1.1880). A statement issued at that time indicates that she had been an operator there: "Mme Gonthier being for several years director of photography Boulevard d'Avroy, 12 and Pont-d'Ile, 4, all the portraits taken during this period have been made by these same processes, under her sole auspices and without the participation of Mr Louis Corbassière" (La Meuse, 10.1.1880).
Branch in Maastricht [NL], 1766c, Rue du Casque, 1881-1888 ca. On her death certificate, Mme Gonthier - Cornand was still recorded as of no profession and her husband as a school teacher. It was witnessed by Ernest Crampon (see that name). After her death, the studio was continued by her widower.
