Frans Ferdinand, ° 15.4.1870; + 1.12.1904. Originally a house painter. He also published picture postcards, beginning in 1901. On one postcard, the façade of his studio reads "F. Hoelen - Peeters, Schilder [ie, painter]". Following Hoelen's early death, his wife Caroline Peeters (° Cappellen, 27.3.1867) continued and expanded the postcard side of the business, supported by her brother Louis Peeters, originally a baker. Between 1901 and 1914 an estimated 6 000 postcards were created. The Hoelens' son Louis took over the firm from his mother around 1926.
