Activity

1894 - 1914 > Tongres
° 21.10.1856; + 22.4.1932. Studied law and was enrolled as a barrister (“avoué”) at the court in Tongeren. However, he spent most of his time on his hobbies, which included writing plays and composing music as well as photography. A single source, the Rosez directory, records Jaminé amongst professional photographers at an address in Tongeren, Boulevard du Nord, in 1894-1895. Jaminé had advertised for sale a cylindrical enamelling apparatus in 1892, “having acquired a larger one” (Hélios illustré, 15.10.1892). It is an accessory that would not have been out of place in a professional studio. Jaminé remained active in the 1920s.
A posthumous set of landscape postcards was issued under the title "De Oude Kempen". A collection of 243 negatives is held by the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA), Brussels. Subjects include the cultural heritage of Limbourg and the exhibition "Old Antwerp" held in 1894. The cultural library of the province of Limburg has an album with 20 landscapes of the region. Jaminé's passionate involvement in local cultural life is commemorated with a statue and a plaque on his house.
