Jozef Bernard, ° 23.3.1887; + 6.2.1976. While still an amateur, he erected a darkroom in his parents' house "Het Moorke" at Grand Place, 50 - a building that was completely destroyed at the outbreak of World War I. Founder member of the "Liersche Fotoclub / Photo Club Lierrois" and its first president from 1911 to 1922 and again from 1924 to 1928. Janssens was an artist, art restorer and local historian. Recorded in the Ratinckx directory as an artist-painter from the early 1920s, Janssens was subsequently listed as a professional photographer from 1929, and ran a studio in Eikelstraat. Photographer in the service of the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA) from 1942 to 1945.
