° 22.8.1835; + 18.9.1888. He was a landowner, residing in the castle of Wijnegem, and member of the commercial and maritime upper middle class. Joostens recorded the ruins of the Antwerp stock exchange on 6.8.1858. As one of the leading Belgian amateurs in the 1860s, he was especially known for his views of the old Antwerp gates and the Spanish ramparts before they were dismantled in 1863-1864; around 40 images are recorded. This campaign was followed by a documentation of the Brialmont fortifications under construction in 1865, a set of 19 images. Joostens had CVs printed in his name, which was rare for an amateur.
