° 25.9.1831. Father of Elisa Klein (see that entry). Address on the back of an ambrotype. "Corner of the Place Marché du Parc, at the beginning of Rue de Schaarbeek". Despite certain sources attributing daguerreotypes to him, none exist to our knowledge. His file in the foreigners' registry is dated 1861.

An itinerant at this period, he operated in fairgrounds. He arrived from Antwerp on 10.4.1861 and left for Halle in the first half of May in the company of Anne-Marie Gasman (see that name).

Painter and photographer. Arrived from Lille [F] on 12.3.1864, initially resident at Rue de Schaerbeek, 88 renumbered 52. Patent of 1.8.1865 for "an apparatus for enlarging photographs". Left for Brussels - Schaerbeek on 26.5.1866. He was elected to membership of the "Société Française de Photographie" ("Klein from Brussels", no forename) on 11.1.1867. He published in the "Bulletin de la Société Française de Photographie" on the subject of enlargers in 1867.

Arrived from Brussels - Schaerbeek on 2.10.1867, described as a camera-maker. On the occasion of his wedding in Brussels on 12.6.1869, Klein gave his occupation as engineer. Moved to Rue des Chapeliers, 26 on 17.6.1869. He published in the "Bulletin de la Société Française de Photographie" on the subject of washing paper in 1871. He opted for French nationality in 1872. Left Brussels without informing the municipal authorities and was removed from the population register on 10.11.1873. A certain Philippe Klein operated in Saintes [Charente Maritime, F] from the mid-1870s with the alternative studio name "Photographie Alsacienne". Klein predeceased his daughter's wedding in Brussels - Laeken on 11.5.1907.
