Itinerant daguerreotypist and calotypist, later established in Marseille [F] in 1844, then in Rome [I] and finally in Valletta [Malta] in the 1860s. After opening a studio in Aix-en-Provence [F] in March 1842, he arrived in Belgium about November 1842 for the purpose of "taking copies of our most beautiful paintings". At the end of 1844 he presented samples of his paper negative process using bromine and iodine as accelerators to the "Académie des Sciences" in Paris.
