Léon Charles, ° 14.4.1852; + 18.5.1931. Engineer. He ran, in conjunction with his brother, a chemical factory "S.A. La Lys" in Ghent - Ledeberg and was a director ("administrateur") of the "Banque de Flandre et de Gand" and "Sucrerie de Moerbeke-Waes". He was chairman of the "Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Gand", 1913-1931. Member of the ABP from 13.7.1875. Knight of the Order of Leopold. Still a member of the ABP in 1922. Father of Charles Leirens (1888 - 1963), musician, first director of the "Palais des Beaux-Arts" in Brussels and well known for his photographic portraits of writers, artists and musicians.
