° 17.4.1818; + 26.3.1899. Captain attached to the War Department in 1855. Major in 1863. First military man to be entrusted with photography when General Nerenburger obtained permission from the War Department to set up a studio to copy maps photographically in 1856. He took the negatives of the first published Belgian book to be illustrated with photographs, Louis Alvin’s "Les nielles de la Bibliothèque Royale", Brussels, Hayez, 1857, but it was Gilbert Radoux (see that name) who supplied the prints. Used Asser’s photolithographic process for copying maps in the 1860s. From attaché to the photography service of the "Institut cartographique", Libois rose through the ranks, retiring with the rank of lieutenant-general. Grand officer of the Leopold order, decorated with the "Croix militaire de Sainte-Anne" and the order of Saint-Stanislas of Russia.
1895 ca - 1899 + Bruxelles - Schaerbeek
Member of the "Photo-Club de Belgique". His obituary, published in the "Bulletin du Photo-Club de Belgique", described him as one of its most eminent members, who was always present at the club's meetings.
