Polydore Louis, ° 16.3.1810; + 9.5.1889. Technologist and inventor in the fields of electricity and telegraphy. Daguerreotypist. In 1842, mechanic at the "Musée de l'Industrie", the director of which was J.B.A.M. Jobard (see that name). Scientific instrument maker. Research in the field of electroplating. In Brussels he made sixth-plate daguerreotypes dated 25.9.1844. Registered as a mechanic in Galerie du Roi, 27 from 1849 until 1851. Lippens worked for the Belgian railways from 1850 until 1886. A very inventive figure, Lippens made nine patent applications (application of lightning conductors to the electric telegraph, letter-scales, etc.) between 1850 and 1864. He exploited patents in 1862 in partnership with Digney & Cie in Paris. At that time living in Brussels - Saint-Josse, he received a honorable mention at the International Exhibition in London, 1862 (instruments for physics and results of their use). Lippens applied for a patent for a telephone relay in 1878. The municipal archives in his native Eeklo house three Daguerreotypes taken by Lippens, of his parents and a self-portrait.
