Activity

1912 Namur
François Guillaume Marie René, ° 24.3.1889; + 3.7.1959. Recorded as a clerk living in Namur at his wedding in Saint-Gervais (Namur) on 31.7.1912. Advertised a Goerz telephoto lens for sale in “Photo Revue Belge”, January 1912, when living in Namur, Rue de l’Ange, 45.
1914 > Anvers, Rue Carnot, 113
Predecessor: Jacqmain Leopold
Recorded as a photographer living at this address at the birth of a son there on 22.7.1914. Lonthie had either taken over Leopold Jacqmain's studio at this address or he might have operated for him for a short period of time. In any case, Lonthie was publishing portraits under his own name by December 1915 here. Moved to Brussels in 1921 when his Antwerp studio was transferred to Gustave Triebels (see that name). Lonthie went on to acquire Eugène Boute’s high-society studio on Avenue Louise in 1924. Lonthie is best known for his formal but stylish portraits of the Belgian royal family, widely disseminated in postcard form during the interwar period.
