Predecessor: Jacobs - Byl Léonie Successor: Maes Adolphe
Opening advertised in January 1903. Partnership of Adolphe Maes (see that name) and one of his younger brothers, probably Jan (Dendermonde, 1876 - Zeveneken, 1974). Both Adolphe and Jan had received instruction at the fine arts academy in Dendermonde, whereas the other two brothers went into their father’s plumbing business, also trading at this same address and family home. Maes Frères owned the negatives of their predecessor Jacobs - Byl (De Onpartijdige, 4.1.1903). Jan, who would later be known as a landscape painter, took up a post at the Dendermonde academy in 1905. It was around this time or shortly afterwards that the photography studio began to be run by Adolphe alone.
