It was crowded throughout the day. The exhibition is rich in specimens of all types. There are photographs from paintings by our leading artists, from sculptures, and a magnificent selection of portraits in all sizes" (Journal de Bruxelles, 31.3.1862). Portrait of Victor Hugo taken on the eve of the banquet for "Les Misérables" in Brussels on 16.9.1862. During the dessert each guest received a copy of the portrait signed by Hugo himself.
