Charles Emile, ° 7.1.1824. Daguerreotypist active in Latin America (Mexico, Montevideo, Buenos Aires) around 1856. Subsequently active in Paris, Rue de la Grange-Batelière, 12 from 1863. In 1865 he presented samples of the wothlytype - a new process for printing positives on paper using uranium salts instead of silver salts - at the exhibition of the "Société française de Photographie" of which he was a member. By deed executed in Aix-la-Chapelle [Prussia] on 24.12.1864 and registered in Brussels - Ixelles on 22.10.1866, Jacques [Jacob] Wothly, photographer in Aix-la-Chapelle, transferred to Emile Mangel du Mesnil, domiciled in Brussels, the import patent that he had filed on 8.12.1864 for his "method of making positive photographic prints". Although active in Paris, Mangel du Mesnil was registered with Hugues Bidoit at this address. They probably collaborated for a short period: the mention "Wothlytypie" appears on Bidoit’s CVs.
1867 * - 1868 / Anvers, Rempart du Lombard, 76
Predecessor: Wynants François # Successor: Van Oudenhoven Jos
On CV, "Société française et belge de Wothlytypie". Arrived from Paris, Rue Grange-Batelière, 12 (his studio from 1866 until 1867) on 23.11.1867. He photographed the erection of the monument to Léopold I in July 1868. Left for Brussels on 23.8.1868, but we have found no further trace of photographic activity by him in Belgium after this date.
