° 12.9.1825; + 14.12.1901. Operator arriving from Paris on 3.11.1857 at the age of 32. Originally a municipal guard, Marmand worked for Bisson frères (see that name) throughout the 1850s. Particularly admired for his dexterity in coating large-size wet collodion plates, he received an honorable mention for cooperators at the "Exposition Universelle" in 1855. Marmand was visiting Belgium to take architectural photographs on behalf of the Bisson firm. He was accompanied by Gilbert Radoux, thus explaining their identical photographs. Marmand subsequently worked for Adolphe Braun (see that name) in Dornach [Alsace] before setting up as a portrait photographer in Metz [Lorraine, D] ("initial "J." on mounts) from 1870 to 1893, while also acting as an agent for Braun.
