° 7.3.1865; + 16.8.1925. Doctor of Natural Science and of Medicine. Professor of Botany at the "Université Libre de Bruxelles" from 1897 until 1925. Director of the "Institut de Botanique" in 1905 and curator of the botanical gardens. Botanical and photographic trips. Massart’s photographs illustrated his scientific studies, in particular the series "Les Aspects de la végétation en Belgique". "Les districts littoraux et alluviaux de la Belgique" was published in 1908 with 86 collotype plates and "Les districts flandrien et campinien" in 1912 with 80 collotype plates. These two portfolios record the various types of landscape and plant life by region. Three further titles in the series were planned but never published. Massart’s stereoscopic plates were used in botany lessons until 1950.
