1844 * Bruxelles, Rue des Carrières, 19
Belgian daguerreotypist and artist-painter coming from Paris. Advertised under the initials "J.J.M.". "He takes daguerreotype portraits in any size and in all weathers for 5, 6, 7, and 10 francs instead of 10, 15, and 20 francs. He displays good taste for arrangement, pose, and lighting effects. The artist continues to make miniature portraits, and portraits in water colours and oil, from head-and-shoulders to full-length" (L'Indépendance Belge, 4.4.1844 and following days). This is most likely Jean Jacques Molyn (° Ghent, 1787; + Brussels, 17.4.1858), who was recorded as a painter living in Paris at the occasion of his wedding in Amiens [Somme, F] on 29.6.1826.
1845 * Mons, Grand Place, 39
"Artist and painter of Belgian birth, but who comes from Paris" (Gazette de Mons, 6.2.1845). Recorded as a person of independent means on his death certificate.
