Johannes Arie Mooy (° Leiden [NL], 29.3.1875; + Antwerp - Deurne, 10.3.1946) was initially registered as a journeyman photographer on Becker's premises at Rue Rubens, 10 in 1898. "Joh. A. Mooy & Co" on CV; "A. Moog & Cie" in trade directories, listing street no. 20-22. Left temporarily for New York on 19.4.1902. Then recorded as a photographer at Scheemersstraat, 31, having arrived from Rotterdam [NL] on 22.4.1906. Occupation variously recorded as barman, sailor (crossed out), and photographer at Vaartstraat, 4 in 1906, leaving for Antwerp - Borgerhout on 3.5.1909, and back again in Antwerp as a sailor in 1911. Mooy left Antwerp at the outbreak of World War I and returned in 1923 to resume his life as a mariner there.
