"Same entrance as the Casino". Recorded as an exhibitor in the population register. Arrived here on 18.1.1859, coming from Cologne [Prussia]. Previously a photographer in Trieste [Istria, Austria-Hungary]. Initial "J." in advertisements, "T." in reports. He registered a patent in Trieste on 26.2.1856 for "improvements in dioptrical stereoscopes". Public exhibition of a "magnificent stereoscopic cabinet". Thomas / Tomaso Patzal had previously displayed his stereoscopic cabinet mainly in the German-speaking area of central Europe - in Innsbruck, Bolzano and Munich in 1858, while advertisements also mention Vienna, Graz and Klagenfurt. "These stereoscopes present all the remarkable views, landscapes and monuments on earth in their natural size and local colour. These stereoscopes will be lit throughout the day with artificial solar rays. The cabinet is open daily, from 10 in the morning until 8 in the evening. Entrance: 50 cts" (L'Indépendance Belge, 23.1. to 2.4.1859).
