Founded "for the purpose of instructing young amateurs in the art of photography by means of lectures with examples, competitions, exhibitions, excursions, etc. Annual membership 6 frs. Lady amateurs welcome" (Vooruit, 2.11.1912). The venue for meetings was the "Maison des Notaires / Notarissenhuis", Lieven Bauwensplaats, 2 in 1912-1913 and Winkelstraat, 1 from at least February 1913 onwards. President: A. Burger; vice-presidents: Van Hoorebeke (1912-1913) and J. Roosen (1912-1914 >); secretary: Fauconnier (1912-1913) then Willemot (1914 >); assistant secretary: Willemot (1912-1913); treasurer: Van der Auwermeulen; assistant treasurer: Van Boxstaele. All 1914 office holders remained in post in 1921, according to the Ghent directory.
There had been a previous incarnation of this club in 1901-1902. Described as "a club of young amateurs of the photographic art" (La Flandre Libérale, 12.4.1901), it organised two fund-raising events for the "Oeuvre des Enfants Martyrs et des Crèches Gantoises". The first, on 11.4.1901, comprised a magic lantern show with views of Ghent and other towns in Belgium and neighbouring countries; the second, on 18.2.1902, included cinematographic projections by Louis Van Neck of Antwerp. We have yet to ascertain the identity of the office-holders and membership in this earlier incarnation of the club.
