Hubert Joseph, ° 22.8.1867; + 20.11.1928. A certain H. Pirot was already active around 1890 (CV with ink stamp, but no place given). During this period, Hubert Pirot was a weaver in Reims [F]. Address noted on his ABP file card on joining in July 1898.

Location on CVs can be misread as "Marcae. Luxembourg". Published an album "Le Luxembourg forestier en photographie" (1903) containing 30 prints, 35 frs. Auto-testimonial on CV back, "The work leaving our studio has been awarded a silver medal and diploma by the government and honoured with orders by the ministries of agriculture and foreign affairs, the bookshops [sic] of the academies of science of Saint Petersburg, London, Paris and St Louis (USA). In 1897 our studio was honoured with an order from the court of Russia." Picture postcards postmarked 1905. Married Salomé Schwartz (° Westhoffen [Bas-Alsace, D], 1875) in Marche on 4.8.1906.

Advertising at this address in June 1909. On invoice letterhead at no. 133 dated January 1913, "Silver medal and diploma. Hors concours Namur 1901". Photographs of the flooding in 1910. Documented Dinant in ruins soon after its bombardment in August 1914. Despite his own studio being destroyed, Pirot erected a temporary structure on the site that enabled him to operate throughout the occupation. Pirot’s photographs constitute a significant contribution to the visual record of the impact of World War I on the Belgian home front. Moved to Rue du Palais de Justice, 10 around 1920 and retired to the village of Durnal in 1926.
