Louis Joseph, ° 15.4.1854. In June 1886, Polain had only recently established himself as a photographer on this street, when had had a serious run-in with the law (Journal de Bruxelles, 23.6.1886). "The Hainaut Assize Court, after two hearings, has just sentenced Polain the photographer to five years incarceration. Surprised adulterously in flagrante delicto by an outraged husband, he thought nothing better in attempting to escape than to fire his revolver twice at the unfortunate spouse" (Le Courrier de l'Escaut, 21.10.1886). The episode had a far from terminal impact on Polain's career as a photographer in La Louvière.
