Victor Ludovicus, ° 6.6.1857. Member of the photographic section of the "Cercle artistique, littéraire et scientifique d'Anvers" and treasurer in 1895. Awarded joint 10th prize for views of the 1894 Universal Exhibition, Antwerp in the photography competition run by the exhibition’s organisers. Went into partnership with Eugène Geurts on 30-31.3.1896 for the purpose of running the "Diorama International"; the partnership of Geurts & Portielje was headquartered in Antwerp. Portielje supplied a series of slides, taken and handcoloured by himself, "Tour by several Antwerpers in southern Switzerland and northern Italy", for projection in the Diorama in December 1897.
