Auguste Pierre, ° 3.3.1843; + 22.8.1923. Civil engineer. A Communard, Potel was appointed inspector of walkways under the Commune. Sentenced to three years imprisonment on 7.8.1872 for "usurpation of functions", he was covered by one or other of the amnesties granted to insurrectionaries in 1879 and 1880. Member of the ABP from 13.4.1875. At that time, partner in a firm of mechanical engineers Peeters, Potel & Cie, incorporated in Brussels - Schaerbeek in 1873. Spent most of his subsequent career in Argentina: in 1911, he was recorded as chairman of the "Comité de l'Alliance Française de Buenos Aires". "Potel lived for nearly 25 years in the Argentine Republic and deployed his activity to promote French influence. During the war, despite his 74 years, he travelled to Buenos Aires in 1917 to combat our ennemies' propaganda" (Bulletin de la Société de géographie de Lille, 44th year, 1923, p; 162).
