Jules Hippolyte, ° 12.9.1824; + 1.5.1914. Lawyer turned photographic publisher in Paris. Listed from 1868 to 1880, initially at Rue Notre-Dame de Lorette, 52 then at Rue Chaptal, 4bis or 20 & 22. Traded under the pseudonym Valecke in the 1860s. Published a series of stereo views "La Belgique Pittoresque et monumentale", around 1872-1875, which can be found with the initials Q.V. The full series consists of 262 prints numbered 1600 to 2051 and covers 19 different towns. Taken during two separate visits to Belgium. The ensemble probably constitutes the most extensive topographical survey undertaken in Belgium by a commercial photographer using a small format before the advent of dry-plate photography. The series was sold amongst others by F. Rau - Van Acker, then Sidonie Boddez - Rau, and by Henri Cerf.
