Gilbert Radoux (see that name) and Richard Papon, a lawyer and native of the Department of the Eure [F], were both political refugees in exile in Brussels. A chronicler of the French colony established in Belgium wrote: "Awaiting the foreigners fought over by so many skilful competitors, they took their friends' portraits, which is not a very profitable business" (SAINT-FERREOL, A. Les proscrits français en Belgique. Brussels, 1870, vol. 1, p. 204).
1854 * Bruxelles - Schaerbeek, Rue de l'Olivier, 53
They arrived at this address in July 1854. They photographed "The Harmony of Human Passions, pediment of the Brussels Grand Théâtre" ["Théâtre de la Monnaie"] by the the sculptor Eugène Simonis, as well as Geefs' painting of King Léopold I . These two photographs, published by B. Van der Kolk (see that name), were amongst the first photographs in Belgium to be thus commercialised. "Portraits, views, copies of paintings and statues" (Le Charivari Belge, 17.6.1854).
