° 31.5.1864; + 28.2.1936. Archéologist and pioneering speleologist. Rahir's photographs of Remouchamps and its surroundings were used by geologist Ernest van Den Broeck (1851-1932) to illustrate his research during a meeting of the "Société Belge de Géologie" on 25.10.1898. Curator at the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels from 1903 where he was in charge of the photographic documentation of Belgian monuments. Director of the national excavation service, 1925-1929. Views of the Han caverns, reproduced in "Les splendeurs de la grotte de Han (Belgique)", Brussels, Bulens, 1900 and "La Lesse ou le pays des grottes", Brussels, Lebègue, 1901, illustrated with 57 photographs. Also exhibited multiple photographs as a member of the "Société d'Archéologie de Bruxelles" in 1902-1904. There is a Rahir collection at the "Société Royale Belge de Géographie". The Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA) in Brussels possesses 528 views of archeological sites taken by Rahir between 1902 and 1905, donated in 1931.
