° 7.7.1833; + 22.8.1898. Painter and engraver. In 1857 he went on holiday to Ostend with Nadar, a caricature of whom he lithographed in 1856: "Nadar aîné". Several other works of his relate to photography: portrait of Charles Neyt as a cook, c. 1865; posters for [Charles] Neyt, c. 1862 and the Dandoy Frères studio, c. 1862; lithograph "Trinité photographique" (Ghémar, Dewasme, and Séverin), published in "Uylenspiegel" of 13.4.1856.
Founder member of the ABP. Friend of Armand Dandoy, with whom he conducted a correspondence in which he discussed (in 1878) the links between painting and photography. In the 1880s Rops reworked plates photoengraved by Bauwens using the Evely process (see that name).
