François Auguste Nicolas, ° 6.12.1843. Brother of Joseph Justin Rothermel (see that name). Associated with another photographer in La Louvière named Victor Hubert at some point in time before September 1887, but this collaboration ended in dispute. Recorded as a photographer living in La Louvière, Place des Martyrs, in March 1889 when arrested because of his suspected involvement in the "grand complot", a court case that received a lot of press coverage at the time. Rothermel was eventually acquitted.
