Ernest Emilius, ° 21.1.1862; + 31.5.1894. Recorded as a photographer when he arrived in Antwerp in late January 1885. A police report stated that he was active in socialist circles and had left several lodgings without paying the rent.

Arrived at this address on 23.8.1891, claiming to have come from his native Haspe [D]. In the population register, the comment "no profession" is crossed out and substituted with "photographer". Studio and accommodation at this address "on Mr Deckers' premises" in October-November 1891. Simultaneously Rottmann was working as an operator for Guillaume Putz (see that name). Moved to Ankerrui, 90 on 2.8.1893, an address not known to be linked to photographic activity. Rottmann's death certificate still recorded him as a photographer.
