British itinerant photographer crossing Belgium with his wife Mary Ann Rowbotham (see separate entry). "Framed portraits from 1 fr. upwards. In all weather, sunless, in 5 seconds" (Gazette van Lokeren, 19.6.1859). Spelled "Jhon Rordbothom" in advertisement. He was probably taking ambrotypes. John Rowbotham was recorded as a sawyer living in Manchester [GB] at his wedding on 25.12.1856, and again as a "bone sawyer" living with his wife at 2 Emily Terrace, Birmingham [GB] in the 1861 British census. Subsequently at Le Ceusot [SaƓne-et-Loire, F], John Rowbostham [sic] was recorded as an artist-photographer aged 26 and of no fixed abode at the birth of a daughter there on 30.8.1862.
