Mary Ann, née Richardson, ° 24.3.1833. Recorded as a spinster at the occasion of her wedding to John Rowbotham, a sawyer, in Manchester [GB] on 25.12.1856. Itinerant portraitist who operated in Ypres for less than three weeks in April 1859; it must have been just one stop on an extensive Continental tour. "English Photography. Mrs Rowboton [sic] informs the public that she will take portraits at Hôtel de la Châtellenie from 9 o'clock in the morning to 6 o'clock in the evening. Portraits may be had for 1 fr. to 25 fr. Perfect likeness guaranteed" (Le Propagateur, 9.4.1859). Announced she would leave on 26.4.1859. The 1861 British census recorded Mary Rowbotham as a photographer aged 28 living with her husband, a "bone sawyer", at 2 Emily Terrace, Birmingham [GB]. See separate entry for John Rowbotham. They soon hit the road again: at Le Ceusot [Saône-et-Loire, F], Marie Josephe Richeson [sic], no profession, wife of John Rowbostham [sic], artist-photographer, gave birth to a daughter on 30.8.1862.
