Ferdinandus Emilius, ° 9.7.1851; + 17.8.1913. Art collector and patron. Although a qualified engineer, private means enabled Scribe to devote himself to painting and to collecting art. President of the association "Les Amis du Musée de Gand" in 1904-1905. He built up a large network on contacts amongst artists and fellow collectors. Scribe bequeathed his art and antiques collection to the city of Ghent, where they constituted the basis of the recently established "Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Gand" and still form the cornerstone of the municipal Museum of Fine Arts. Member of the ABP from 1888 to 1893 and from 1904 onwards.
