He accompanied Ramón Lista's expedition to Tierra del Fuego and took photographs of the journey, thereby becoming one of the few Belgian expeditionary photographers. He then settled in the region where, as Polidoro Segers, he earned the sobriquet of first doctor in Tierra del Fuego.
