Joseph-Arnold photographed the Pont des Arches in Liège around 1858. In 1863 he worked for one month in Paris "with a famous photographer". He then procured cameras and installed himself in his parents’ home. This was a corner site and both addresses were used. In 1864 he formed a partnership with his brother Jean (-Théodore) (see Servais Frères). In 1866 he took photographs for an album containing the portraits of the teaching staff in the municipal schools in Liège, presented to Mr Gillon, former alderman for public education.
