Robert Heinrich Wilhelm, ° 13.2.1839. In partnership with Ghémar from 1855 (see Ghémar [L.] & Severin, [R.]). Severin was a second-generation photographer; his father Wilhelm Severin (° Eschweiler [D], 15.6.1809; Düsseldorf [D], 28.4.1888) had opened the first permanent Daguerreotype studio in Düsseldorf, operating at Steinweg 217 from April 1845, thereafter at Schadowstrasse 212 from 1856 until his death in 1888.
"R. Severin of Düsseldorf" was established in The Hague [NL], Noordeinde, 109, from September 1860 until 4.10.1875; he then announced his departure for Hamburg [D]. He attended a brother's wedding in Brussels on 12.4.1866, when he was recorded as a photographer resident in The Hague. On 19.12.1877 he wrote to Nadar to apply for a job with him or with a colleague. He had to leave The Hague where he had been "photographer to the King and the Queen of the Netherlands". He had returned to Brussels (Brussels - Saint-Gilles, Rue Berchmans, 22) and worked at Ghémar's firm for a few months: "Under the current management I have had to give up relaunching a studio that has declined so badly since Ghémar's death". He left Brussels for Bremen [D] on 18.9.1879. He operated studios in Bremen, 1880-1882 and in 1888 was recorded as "court photographer" in Delmenhorst near Bremen.
