° 29.12.1866; + 22.4.1940. An engineer, he took up a post in 1891 with the "Compagnie du Chemin de fer du Congo" and participated in the construction of the railway from Matadi to Léopoldville. Subsequently, construction of railways in the Transvaal, Argentina, Spain, Russia and, from 1904 to 1906, in China. He donated a "large collection of iconographic documents" to the "Institut International de Photographie" in 1906. It contained many of his own ethnographic photographs taken during his stay in the countries listed above.
