Activity

1906 - 1914 > Bruxelles - Etterbeek, Rue de Ma Campagne, 30-34
Predecessor: Jumpertz Frères [Joseph & Pierre]
Collotype. Director: Pierre Jumpertz; general manager: Joseph Jumpertz. On letterhead: "Printing, lithography and collotype. Picture postcards a speciality." Cards in monochrome, duotone and colour (1911). The qualification "Anonyme" is often omitted from the printed credit on postcards. From 1913 onwards, the firm traded as "La Phototypie Belge". "The largest manufacturer of picture postcards in the country" [Mertens, 1913]. The firm may have been refounded after World War I since a letterhead dated 1920 at this address reads "La Phototypie Belge Soc. Anon. Nouvelle" and states "print works: lithography; photogravure". Soon afterwards, the firm moved to Brussels - Etterbeek, Avenue Edouard de Thibault, 2 and continued to trade as “Phobel” until 1970. The disused printing works were then renovated to become the seat of the RHoK art academy. An archive of around 2500 glass plate and roll film negatives was salvaged from the disused premises.
