Treasurer of the "Union Internationale de Photographie". A member of the "Société belge de microscopie", he made photomicrographs in 1883 jointly with Ernest Vanden Kerkhove (see that name). "It was while attending courses in the Botanical Gardens in Antwerp some fifteen years ago that Stappers developed a taste for microscopy, which later became his favourite subject; his small micrographic laboratory was perfectly equipped" (Obituary, Bulletin de l'ABP). A dramatic cloud study (20 x 33 cm.) in an album presented by the Antwerp section of the ABP to Albéric Lunden in 1888, in the collection of the Photography Museum in Antwerp, is signed jointly by Henri Schleusner and Léon Stappers. A platinum print also by Stappers in the same album features a man reading in an interior. He was also interested in X-rays.
