Florimond François Henri Théophile, ° 16.12.1860. Son of J.G.T. Steppe. Described as a clerk in the 1876 Brussels population register. Initial "E." in the 1888 Rozez directory. First advertisement on 20.12.1885 when he was operating at "De Gouden Klok" on the Grand' Place. Returned to Brussels on 2.5.1890 when he was still described as a clerk. He then briefly traded in photographic supplies in 1891-1892: see entry for "Steppe, Fl. & Cie". Steppe's subsequent moves cannot be linked directly to photographic activity: to Brussels - Schaerbeek on 11.4.1893, then to Malines, Rue Conscience, 29 on 26.3.1896, returning to Brussels, Rue Neuve 140-142 on 10.3.1897. Nevertheless Steppe was recorded as a photographer living in Rue Neuve, 142 until 15.4.1905, a period of time roughly coinciding with the firm Lux (or Photo-Lux or Photographie Lux) at this address. Resident in Brussels - Saint-Gilles on 4.12.1915. Also see entry for "Cox, Arthur & Co. Ltd".
