Predecessor: Mitkiewicz César
° 26.8.1826. Owner of a photographic establishment in 1862 in Warsaw [PL], Rue du Nouveau Monde, 1251. According to the catalogue of the 1873 International Exhibition in Vienna, the Brussels firm was established in 1862 (i.e. trading as Baron & Mitkiewicz). He arrived in Brussels on 3.10.1865 according to a police report, but only recorded at the population registry on 28.5.1866, first as a proprietor, then as a photographer; later, in the 1880s, he was registered as a person of private means. Apparently he first worked for Mitkiewicz before acquiring his studio at this address. In 1866 the police enquired after a certain Ladislas Sawicki at this address. "Mickiwicz" (= Mitkiewicz) denied knowing him. It was perhaps Straszak who was meant. Sometimes written "Strachak" on CV. "Sole holder of the negatives produced since opening in 1862 [...], [He informs] the public that as a result of too great an accumulation of said negatives totalling 30,000, he has decided to eliminate those taken in the years 1862, 1863, 1864, and 1865" (L'Echo de Bruxelles, 15.12.1867). He moved to Rue de Laeken, 28, in 1889, having abandoned photography long before.
1868 ca - 1875 ca Ostende, Hôtel de Flandre
Following the example of Mitkiewicz, he operated at this address during the season.
