Jules Joseph, ° 13.10.1859. At his wedding in Paris on 22.7.1886, recorded as a business clerk living in Paris. By 1890 he was in Antwerp, recorded initially as a clerk, then as a photographer. He moved to this address from Lombardenvest, 79 on 8.11.1895. Documentation of the Antwerp Universal Exhibition, 1894; his submission (no initial) earned him joint fourth prize in the competition run by the exhibition’s organisers.
1905 - 1914 Anvers, Canal au Sucre, 26
President of the "Union des Photographes Professionnels d'Anvers" in 1913-1914. His brother Alphonse Joseph Tobie (° Jehonville (prov. Luxembourg), 9.2.1861; + Antwerp, 29.3.1912) was recorded as a photographer domiciled in Borgerhout, Zonstraat, 36 on his death certificate in 1912. By 1920, Jan "Frans" Haesen (° Antwerp - Berchem, 17.11.1884; + Antwerp, 24.12.1935) was advertising as Tobie's successor at this address. Haesen was already recorded as a photographer in Antwerp at the occasion of his wedding in Antwerp - Wilrijk on 30.6.1914.
