Jean François Maurice, ° 12.2.1894; + April 1924. Son of a pharmacist. Originally a Pictorialist specialising in oil printing. Fifth prize (25 francs) winner at the Gevaert competition organized during the Brussels International Exposition in 1910. Member of the "Photo-Club liégeois", he gave demonstrations of the oil process at the club in 1913. Autochromes of landscapes and woods (1913). He exhibited autochromes ("suggestive autumn effects") at the ABP's 26th annual slide show in Liège in April 1914.

Opened a business in photographic supplies with a photographic studio. Ummels remained active as a professional photographer and dealer in photographic supplies until at least 1920. Still listed as a member of the ABP and the "Photo-Club liégeois" in 1922. Died here after a long and painful illness.
